(Dean) Kytle, was born in White Co., July 7,1870. On his father's side his family is of German ancestry, his great- grandfather, Zachariah Kytle, having been born in Germany and emigrated to this country and settled in South Carolina before the Revolutionary War, during which he was a soldier in the patriot army. His paternal grandfather, Zachariah Kytle was born in Spartanburg, S.C. where he grew to manhood and married, and after, migrated to Ga. and settled in Habersham Co., where he died in 1868. He was a farmer and raised a family of ten children. Mr. Kytle's father was born in Habersham Co., Dec. 3, 1830 and received such education as could be obtained at the country schools in that locality and period. After completing his own education he taught school eleven years in all, in Habersham and White Counties, before and after the war. In 1862 he enlisted in The Third Ga. Calvary, which formed part of Gen. Wheeler's command, served during the war and actively participated in the fatiguing marches and bloody skirmishes and battles which made that command so famous for daring and bravery. Since the war he has been elected to many offices of honor and responsibility, all of which he filled acceptably, serving the best interests of the people. In 1868 he was elected a member of the county board of education and was re-elected for twelve years. In 1888 he was elected county commissioner and was re-elected. He resigned in 1893 when he was succeeded by his son. He is justly regarded as White County's most useful citizen. In 1865 he was married to Miss Caroline H., daughter of Wiley Dean, born in Habersham and now a citizen of White Co. Mr. Dean married Miss Anna Wiley by whom they had nine children. He died while in the army during the late war. His wife was born in 1832 and died in 1876. To Mr. Kytle's parents thirteen children have been born; John Wiley; George Scott, the subject of this sketch; Martha E, Mary J., Emma J., Henry M., Robert Lee, Alexandar Stephens, Anna, Beulah, Birdie Mae, Jura and Frances. Mr. Kytle received his primary education in the schools of the county and attended Towns Co. High School. In 1889 he entered Mercer University where he took a classical course and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. He went to Lexington, Ky. and entered a Commercial College there and took a business course. Returing home he entered the Office of Hon. John J. Kimsey, under whose preceptorship he read law and was admitted to the bar in 1894, in Towns Co., Superior Court. He opened an office in Cleveland. He was elected at age 22 as county school commissioner.
