Dempsey Rev.Quillian served as a member of The North Ga. Conference for fifty-three years. He was born at Mossy Creek, White County, Ga., son of a local preacher, Fletcher Arnold Quillian and Kasira Malisse Meaders Quillian, and grandson of a preacher, James Quillian and Sara Prickett Quillian. His early education was in the White Co., elementry school. Later he attended Andrew Male High School in Elberton, Ga. During the summers of 1874 and 1875, he taught school at New Bethel, Franklin Co., Ga. For a period he was associated in the mercantile business with two of his brothers, William A. and J. T. Quillian, at Homer from 1873 to 1875. He was licensed to preach on Oct., 1875. In 1878 he married Miss Alice Estella Smith, who preceded him in death by many years. After two months illness, Rev. Quillian passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Raymond Singletary at Blakely, Ga. at 10:45am. The funeral was at The First United Methodist Church, Atlanta, Ga. He was buried at Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta. Those who survive him are: Clifford G., of Seattle, Wash., C. Fletcher of Los Angles, Cal., John W. of Atlanta, Henry M., Jr. two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Singletary, Mrs. Charles K. James of Rome, Ga., also an adopted daughter, Mrs. Thomas Phinizee, two brothers and eleven grandchildren. ADDITIONAL NOTE: James Quillian, who is buried at Mossy Creek, was the father of William F. Quillian, one time president of Wesleyan College.
