He was born in Fannin county, Ga., and dedicated his entire life to farming. He married in White county in 1865, to Miss Jane Guess. He was an active churchman, being a steward for a number of years. Also for many years he was a teacher and superintendent of Sunday School. Politically he always took a definite stand, working for the betterment of his country, and in all his business affairs, church matters and political activities he had the hearty cooperation of his wife. He was the dominant figure in establishing the Mossy Creek High School, he being the first to suggest the establishment of the school. Besides a widow he leaves members of his family as follows, all of whom were present at the funeral except the oldest, John H. Miles, of Rising Fawn, Ala., who arrived too late; Simeon F. Miles, Habersham, Ga.; Mrs. L. C. Brownlow, Hiawassee, Ga.; Mrs. N. H. Skelton, Cleveland; Mrs. R. B. Quattlebaum, Jacksonville, Fla.; Mrs. G. E. Sutton, Cleveland;; Frank D. Miles, Clarkesville, Ga.; Marion R. Miles, Atlanta; Jay N. G. Miles, Atlanta. There are forty-four grand children and thirty great-grand children surviving him. Rev. B. W. Kilpatrick, assisted by Claude Haynes, conducted the funeral services.
