HISTORY OF WHITFIELD COUNTY

THIRTY-NINTH REGIMENT, GEORGIA INFANTRY
 No official list of Companies A, B, D, E, F, and G could be found of this
regiment, but the two that are listed below, while unofficial, contain the names
of many Whitfield county men who served in this Regiment.

 The Dalton Argus of August 20, 1887, contained the following account of a
reunion of this regiment giving the names of a few men who served with the
regiment:

 "Reunion of the 39th Georgia Regiment was held in Dalton, Georgia, in August,
1887. At this meeting a communication was read from Captain S. Percy Green, of
Fort Worth, Texas, in which he stated that he had returned to the survivors
their old colors which were rent and torn from the effects of many battles.
Capt. Green stated that when he received orders to surrender, that he could not
find it in his heart to give up the old flag, so he took it from the staff and
wrapped it around his body under his clothing, and so carried it out and had
preserved it.

 "The following list contains the names of the survivors of the 39th Georgia
Regiment attending this reunion:
