March 30, 1903 If the recommendations made by the prison commission in the cases of John Perry, of Dalton, and Joe Cleveland, of Crawford county, are approved by Governor Terrell, both of these men will be hanged for murder on the days set by law for their execution. John Perry, a white man, killed J. A. Walker, an employee of Robinson's circus last year as the result of a drunken row. Joe Cleveland, of Crawford county, is sentenced to be hanged on April 17 for the murder of another negro. The prison commission has declined to recommend commutation of sentence to life imprisonment in either of these cases, and if the governor does not interfere they will be executed on the dates set.
