The Father of Mrs. Beck and Miss Addie Bailey. From the Cumming, Ga., Clarion. Rev. Dr. S. S. Bailey is dead from heart failure. On Friday night before he was taken severely ill, and continued to grow worse till death relieved him. He was in the 76th year of his age, and had been till his death very active and energetic. He began the practice of medicine in early life, and for nearly fifty years devoted himself to the relief of suffering humanity, and he was hardly ever known to refuse to attend the call of any because of their inability to pay him, but in heat and cold, sleet and snow, day or night, was ever ready to go anywhere that he might relieve the sick. He was also a physician of souls, and under his ministration many souls were stirred to their profoundest depths. In the history of the Baptist denomination in Georgia, his name has a place, together with his portrait and a short sketch of his life. He shared in the honors of his country, having been several times elected to the legislature from Whitfield county, Georgia. How well he represented the interests of his county in the Georgia legislature many of his old constituents can testify.
