Was glad to hear from you hope you and the rest are well. For my self I am o.k. geting along find. I have just got through writing ------ and ----- --- a letter. I was glad to hear from them. I like to get mail from them all. I wrote you a letter a few days ago and I thought I had done mailed it and got to looking through my old letters and found it. I didn't no what to think about it. Well I will see that this one will go for I will take it over as soon as I get through writing it. Beckie I am glad to hear that you like down there I think it will be better for you and the kids. For you are where you can get lots of fresh air and that means a lot in the country. I got a letter from James the other day he wrote me a long letter and sent me one of his picture he sure do look lots better than he used to he is geting fat. I wish I could have a picture made of my self so I could mail you one but don't guess you would no me. Beckie I have ben through H--- I still have my waght but I feel like I am geting old in wich I will soon be 29. I haven't ben sick sence I have ben over here but I have saw so much over here that it take a good man to stand and I thank I am as good of a man as any body can be. It take a good man to go though what I have ben through with and that is why I say it. I have sen my part of the world and now I am ready to go home. I wish I could write you and tell you what I have ben through with since the time I landed in SAFI NORTH AFRICA Nov 8 1942 up intill now you would be surprise to no but I cant write much about it but maby some day I can tell you all about it. Well we ar having lots of rane over here now and it make us feel better for it has ben dry so long over here. Beckie I sent mama to packages with some thing in thear for you it not nothin much but just something to rember me by. Tell -------- I am fixing to start on her letter wright away Well as news is short I will close hoping to hear from you very soon give my Love to all. your Brother Charlie over I got the cigarettes mama sent me Was glad to get this I was Smoking my last one in my pack when thay had mail call. havent got the other things yet. anc soon (------ means still living) Charlie was born Nov 23, 1914 near TyTy,Ga, and died July 12, 1991 in Dallas, Texas and buried there. He was finally coming home. Most of the men were in their bunks the night the ship was torpedoed. His back, legs and feet were injured and he was in a cast for a long time. He said it was really rough trying to get topside. There was an article about him in newspapers in White Springs, FL, Abbeville and Atlanta, Ga in July or August of 1944.
