                       Final Rites For Mrs. Maynard Bowen
 Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon for Mrs. Emma Kate Bowen, 54, 
at the Abbeville Baptist Church. Officiating ministers were the Rev. H. J. 
Johnston of Alma, the Rev. George Rector, and the Rev. W. B. Taylor of 
Rochelle. Burial was in the Stubbs Cemetery, the Dorsey Funeral Home in charge 
of arrangements.
 Mrs. Bowen was a native of Laurens County, born February 13, 1891, the 
daughter of the late William H. Lee and Annie E. Shepherd Lee. She moved with 
her family from Chester to Rochelle in 1912, where she resided until her 
marraige to her surviving husband, Maynard Bowen of Abbeville, in 1926. She 
died at the home of her sister in Rochelle Wednesday following an illness of 
several weeks.
 She was for three years a teacher in the Abbeville High School, a member of 
the local Baptist Church, and served as secretary and circle leader of the WMU 
in the church. The deacons of ther church were honorary pallbearers, with the 
regular pallbearers being C. E. Parker, W. E. McRae, S. G. Carswell, of 
Abbeville, Leroy Tippins, Guy Fuller, and Ernest McKinley, of Rochelle.
 Survivors are her husband, Maynard Bowen of Abbeville; two sisters, Mrs. 
Delmar Mashburn and Mrs. Alma Carmichael, of Rochelle; four brothers, R. H. 
Lee of Boling Green, Fla., Dr. G. R. Lee of Dublin, Uly Lee of Rochelle, and 
Pfc. Ernest B. Lee of the US Army in Germany; and eight nieces and nephews.
