FORMER COUNTY AGENT OF DODGE DIES IN ROCHELLE.

Funeral services for William Dowdy Hillis, 68, who died at his home following 
a long illness, were held on Monday, March 23. at the Rochelle Baptist 
Church.  Rev. Paul Peace and Rev John B. Carroll officiated.  Burial followed 
in the Morningside Cemetery in Rochelle.

Mr. Hillis was a native of Burke County.  He was a graduate of the University 
of Georgia and had served as county agent in Dodge, Bulloch, Colquitt, 
Randolph, and Wilcox Counties.  At the time of his death he was retired.

He is is survived by his widow, Frances King Hillis, of Rochelle; two 
daughters, Mrs. Frances Reid, of Rochelle, and Mrs. Clara Schenke, of Banford, 
Conn.; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. R. J. Ellison, Girard, Ga.;  
Mrs. Frank Crouther, Macon; Mrs. Ray Farlow, Augusta; and Mrs Frank Bunion, of 
Greenville, S. C.; two brothers, M. S. Hillis, Girard, and Jake Hillis, of 
Waycross.

Compiler Notes: William Doughty Hillis was the son of Thomas Jefferson Hillis 
born: 29 May 1858 in Burke County, Georgia and died 23 Aug 1911 in Burke 
County, Georgia.  He married  11 Nov 1885 in Scriven County, Georgia,  Katie 
Ann Houston who was born 20 Feb 1868 in Ga ( but Census list her parents in 
Burke Co,., Georgia.)  Katie died 29 May 1940 in Burke County, Georgia. (Both 
are buried in the Bethlehem Cemetery at Girad, Burke County, Georgia.)  Katie 
Parents' Lewis Houston (1808-1877) and Jane Griffin (1825-1901) Both are 
buried at Bethany Cemetery at Girad, Burke County, Georgia.  All of the above 
appear in "Find A Grave".
