The Abbeville Chronicle Abbeville., Wilcox County., Georgia Thursday, December 4, 1947 Page 1. Final Rites For Daniel Thomas Sutton. Mr. Daniel Thomas Sutton, an honored citizen of Rochelle for sixty years, died at his suburban home Thursday evening, November twenty-seventh. Funeral services were conducted from Rochelle Baptist church, Rev. Wiley J. Williams, of Ocilla, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Sam T. Mayo. A chorus of voices from the local Baptist and Methodist church choirs rendered the music, Mrs. C. E. McDonald, accompanying at the organ. Grandsons served as pall bearers: James Sutton, George Sutton, Leroy Sutton, Carl Sutton, William Sutton, Henry B. Sutton, Dan H. Sutton, Lansing J. Sutton, Maxwell Lasseter and Kenneth Lasseter. The remaining nineteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grand children and one great, great grandchild were honorary pall bearers. Interment was in Morningside Cemetery, Rochelle. Dorsey Funeral Home in charge. Mr Sutton was a descendant of Rev. Zacharith Sutton and his wife, Frusannah Askew, of North Carolina, pioneer settlers of Dooly County, where Mr. Sutton was born. His father was Marcus Sutton, who gave his life serving with the Confederacy during the Civil War, and his mother was Edna Jane Futrel. He was married to Miss Georgia Lou Royal, also of pioneer Dooly county families. She survives her husband. Of their fifteen children, seven are yet living: John D. Sutton, Victor R. Sutton, Thurman Sutton, Mrs. Z. W. Lasseter, Mrs. Henry S. Fitzgerald, of Rochelle; Fred Sutton, of Columbus; Mrs. Edwin A. Beeks, of Spartanburg, S.C. and Miami, Fla. Mr. Sutton was a retired planter and turpentine operator. He would have been 96 years of age on his approaching birthday, January 13, which date would have marked his seventy-fourth wedding anniversary. He and his valued wife, who is ninety years of age, have lived a long and useful life in the community, and are leaving descendants who are perpetuating their fine Christian ideas.
