(Tombstone inscription, Crawfordville Baptist Cemetery). He immigrated to the United States from the port of Bremen, arriving in New York City, 28 August 1848. (Info. provided by Cousin Ralph W. Golucke, Crawfordville, GA, now deceased.) I’ve not found him in the 1850 census and it is unclear just when he arrived in Wilkes Co., but would be before August 1854 when he married the first time. He lived first in Washington, GA where his occupation was cabinet maker but by 1880 he is found in Crawfordville. In 1900, Edmund and his second wife were living in Taliaferro Co. with their son, Charles H. Golucke. Edmond is buried at Crawfordville Baptist Cemetery beside his 2nd wife, Leonora Sabina (Wingfield) Golucke. Edmond Golucke married (1): to Cornelia Susan Wingfield, 23 August 1854, Wilkes Co., Georgia, born 21 Feb. 1822, Wilkes Co., died 21 Oct. 1862, Wilkes Co. She was daughter of James Nelson Wingfield and Susan Gordon. Cornelia is buried in Resthaven Cemetery, Washington Ga. In May of 1991, while visiting in Washington, Georgia, I was determined to find the grave of Cornelia. She was not listed in the cemetery book by F. M. & Nell H. Newsome but I felt certain she must have been buried at Resthaven Cemetery with other members of the Wingfield family. My cousin, Jane Newsome, was exceptionally patient and took me to Resthaven Cemetery two days in a row where we finally discovered Cornelia’s grave. What we found was one of those above the ground graves, rusty and moss-covered, that most people had overlooked because the inscription was not visible. Jane was wonderful in helping to scrape, powder, and brush, even as she kept a watchful eye on the thunder storm that was brewing. It was a lot of work but very exciting to find the inscription below. "In Memory of Cornelia S. Golucke Wife of Edmond Golucke and daughter of James and Susan Wingfield She was born on the 21st of February 1822, and died on the 21st of October 1862 She was a devoted wife and mother, a dutiful daughter, kind and affectionate sister and a sincere steadfast friend to her family her death has caused a vacancy which is uncomparable; they have the consolation though they are left to mourn her loss, she has only passed through the land of the dead to live through a happy and unending eternity. “In the midst of life we are in death. Farewell dear Cornelia, until we meet in Heaven " Children of Edmond and Cornelia: 1. Susan Gordon Golucke, b. 10 Dec. 1855, d. ca. 1873. 2. James Wingfield Golucke, b. 19 June 1857, d. 26 Oct. 1907.
