GA, 1813 Transcribed from the original hand written document found in book of deeds, Wilkes Co. GA. State of Georgia This indenture made this twenty seventy day of August one thousand eight hundred thirteen between Wm. G. Gilbert of the Count of Wilkes & State aforesaid of the one part and John Cofer of the County and State aforesaid of the other part witnessesth that the said Wm. Gilbert for & in consideration of the sum of fourteen hundred dollars to him is hereto paid by the said John Cofer the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained & sold 7 by these presents doth grant bargain, sell & confirm to the said John Cofer his heirs and assigns all that tract so found of land situate lying and being in the County & State aforesaid on the waters of Beaverdam Creek, adjoining lands of Richard Peteet the heirs of William Williamson, Edward Callaway, William Strozier , the heirs of Robert Tombs Holtzclaw & others including the land and plantation wheron the said John Cofer now lives containing by estimation three hundred & sixty acres and bounded more particularly on "respective" platt of "the __affixed" to these presents Annexed as indicated at large, viz. Plot in detail is shown. "Recorded" on the 25th day of April 1816 by John Dyson Joel T. Smith / C. C. (written between the names) Joseph B. Cofer / Together with all and singular the aforesaid with the appurtenances thereof to have & to hold the above described quantity of land with all and singular the rights "members" & appurtenances thereof and the said Wm. G. Gilbert his heirs and assigns will warrant and forever defend the above described quantity of land & premises against I am not sure this is the end of the document. It is all that I ended with when I copied from the book of deeds in Wilkes Co. Items in quotation marks are my best interpretation of the writing. Note Joseph B. Cofer as a witness. This is assumed to be John's brother. I have an additional indenture for land by Joseph B. Cofer in January 1, 1820, recorded Janyuary 30, 1823.
