Copied at the Wilkes County Courthouse in Washington, Georgia, September 2006, transcribed by Marshall Styles: This Indenture made this Third day of April in the year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and eighty eight Between Josiah Cole of the county of Wilkes and State of Georgia of the one part & John Colley of the County and State aforesaid of the other Part. Witnesseth that the said Josiah Cole for and in consideration of the sum of seventeen pounds ten shillings to him in hand paid by the said John Colley the receipt whereof the said Josiah Cole doth hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained sold aliened(?), released and confirmed and by these Presents doth grant, bargain, sell a lien in fee of, release and confirm unto the said John Colley his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or Parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County of Wilkes and State aforesaid near the Town of Washington – adjoining Henry Moungers(?) land northwardly, Henry Carr’s land Westardly, Taylor’s lott southwardly & the Commons of the said Town Eastardly containing Acre and three quarters more or less with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or appertaining to the said Tract or parcel of Land and Premises above mentioned, and also the Estate, Right, Title, Interest, Claim or demand of him the said Josiah Cole his heirs Executors and Administrators to him the said John Colley his heirs and assigns forever To have and to hold the said Tract or Parcel of Land and Premises above mentioned with their and every of their rights and appurtenances unto the said John Colley his heirs and assigns to his & their own proper use and behoof.
