Copied at the Wilkes County Courthouse in Washington, Georgia, September 2006, transcribed by Marshall Styles: This Indenture made the fifteenth day of December in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety-two, Between John Colley & Sarah his wife of the County of Wilkes and State of Georgia of the one part and John Springer of the same County and State of the other part, Witnesseth that the said John Colley & Sarah for & in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds to them in hand paid by the said Springer the receipt of which they hereby acknowledge hath bargained sold & by these presents bargain & sell All that tract & parcel of land situated and being in said County & State on the Waters of Fishing Creek sold and conveyed by Ambrose Edwards & Jemima his wife to the said Colley by their Indenture bearing date the fourteenth instant described as followeth (viz) Beginning at a pine on Dearing’s line thence north seventy east nineteen & a half chains to a pine thence north twenty east twenty chains on Dearings line to a red oak, thence south eight three east four chains & a half on Lackey’s line to a red oak thence south forty east twenty one chains on Lackey’s line to a post oak thence south nine chains on Lackey’s line to a red oak thence south seventy east twenty seven chains on Lackey’s line to a pine thence south twelve west fifty three chains to a red oak thence seventy west twenty nine chains on Long’s line to a hickory thence on David Smith’s line to the Beginning containing three hundred & twenty five acres. To have and to hold the above described tract and parcel of land with every appurtenance thereunto belonging to the said John Springer his heirs Administrators, Executors & assigns for the only proper use of the said Springer & his legal representative and the said John Colley & Sarah his wife the above described tract of land with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging to the said Springer his heirs, Executors, Administrators & Assigns do hereby promise for themselves their heirs Executors & Administrators to warrant and will forever defend. In witness whereof the said John Colley & Sarah his wife hath hereunto set their hands & affixed their seals the day and date above written.
