Copied at the Wilkes County Courthouse in Washington, Georgia, September 2006,

Wilkes County} On the 1st day of Decr. 1877 I promise to pay S.C. Ellington or 
order Sixteen Hundred and Forty Six & 9/100 dollars, with 10 per cent interest 
from 1st of April, payable at the end of each year for value received.
The better to secure the payment of said sum & in consideration thereof, I 
hereby give, grant & convey unto said S.C. Ellington or order a full and 
complete lease & mortgage on all that tract or parcel of land lying and 
situate in said County on the Danburg Road bounded by lands of Crafton, 
Alexander and others & containing twenty acres more or less, and also on that 
tract of land lying in the same County bounded by lands of Dyson & Thos. 
Newsom’s & containing thirty eight acres more or less, hereby waiving for 
myself & family the benefits all Homestead and Exemption laws.
In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal, this April 16th 1877
