[Must have been quite a gelding!] Copied at the Wilkes County Courthouse in Washington, Georgia, September 2006, transcribed by Marshall Styles: Georgia} This Indenture made this Twenty sixth day of February in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven Between Richardson Hunt of the County of Wilkes of the one part and John Colley of the aforesaid county of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Richardson Hunt for and in consideration of one gelding received by the said Hunt at the price of Twenty Five pounds current money of this State to heirs the said Hunt paid, the receipt whereof he the said Hunt doth acknowledge, hath bargained and sold unto the said John Colley one tract or parcel of land lying and being in the county aforesaid on the waters of the Golden Grove Creek. Beginning at Emphrey Whealer’s corner pin, thence off on said Whealers line North Eighty degrees West crossing a branch and passing Stations black oak White Oak and pine to a corner sourwood on old line fifty three chains. Thence off on said old line south passing Station’s pin to a corner Black Oak on old line nineteen chains thence off said old line east to corner chestnut on old line eight chains thence off old line south fourteen chains and seventy links, crossing a branch to corner ash on said old line. Thence off on old line crossing said branch two times and passing a station Black oak to corner black oak onto line south eighty degrees east thirty nine chains. Thence off on old line north ten degrees east passing Station Hickory and pine to the beginning corner pine on Emphrey Whealer’s line thirty one chains and sixty two links, containing by estimation One hundred and Twenty Six acres be the same more or less, Together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging. To have and to hold the said land and premises unto the said John Colley his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Richardson Hunt doth for himself covenant and agree with the said John Colley that he and his heirs shall and will warrant and forever defend from me the said Richardson Hunt my heirs and assigns the said land and premises unto you the said John Colley your heirs and assigns.
