This Indenture made this 26th May 1884 between Romulus Rusher colored, of 
Wilkes County Georgia of one part and Right Reverend William H. Gross of the 
other part, doth Witness that said Romulus Rusher in consideration of the Sum 
of One Hundred and Ten dollars paid him by the said W.H. Gross at and before 
the Sealing and delivery of this Deed hath granted, bargained Sold and 
conveyed and doth by these presents Grant bargain Sell and Convey to said 
Right Reverend William H. Gross all that tract or lot of land lying and being 
in said state & county & town of Washington containing One acre & a half the 
same purchased of Joseph Ball by said Romulus Rusher one acre of which is 
fully described in a deed from said Ball to said Rusher made on 4th day of 
January in the year 1882 and the other half acre bought also by said Rusher of 
said Ball on 26th February 1883, which adjoined the acre above described and 
the whole 1½ acre as so situated or when added to the Land already held for 
St. Joseph’s Orphanage it will make the line of said Orphanage Property a 
straight line on the East side; To Have and to Hold the same in fee simple 
with all its rights privileges and appurtenances for the proper use and 
benefit of said Right Reverend W.W. Gross, and said Romulus Rusher for himself 
his heirs and assigns will forever Warrant and defend all of said one ½ acres 
of land to said Right Reverend W.H. Gross against the claim of himself and all 
persons whatever.

In person before me came William M Reese and being duly Sworn saith an oath 
that he with James A Benson saw the within named Romulus Rusher Sign Seal & 
deliver this deed for the purposes therein named and that he with James A 
Benson attested said signing Sealing & delivery in presence of said Romulus 
Rusher at his instance and request               W.M. Reese
