Copied at the Wilkes County Courthouse in Washington, Georgia, September 2006, transcribed by Marshall Styles: Georgia} Wilkes County} This Indenture made the 16th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety six Between John Smith of the aforesaid County & State of the one part & John Colley of the said County & State of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Smith for the consideration of the sum of two hundred pounds hath bargained and sold and doth by these presents grant bargain sell & confirm unto him the said Colley for the said sum of two hundred pounds which is to him well & truly paid at or before the Sealing & Delivering of these presents, the receipt is whereby acknowledged and himself fully paid, All that tract or parcel of land containing two hundred acres situate lying & being in the said County of Wilkes on the Beaverdam Creek being a part of a tract of land granted to George Reynolds which did contain four hundred acres, and being the same part sold by said Reynolds to the said John Smith & conveyed by deed bearing date the 2nd day of August 1785 and bounded agreeable to the original grant as follows, on the south east by Luke Morgan’s lands on the South West by George Babby’s Land, on the North West by Vacant Land and on the North East by the other part of said Tract of which was sold Zachariah Henderson by the said George Reynolds & supposed to contain two hundred acres the same more or be it less, To have & to hold the said tract or parcel of land together with all and singular the premises unto him the said John Colley his heirs & assigns, And the said John Smith doth warrant & forever defend the said Tract of land and all and singular the rights members & appurtenances thereunto being or in anywise appertaining or belonging unto him the said John Colley his heirs & assigns against the said John Smith his heirs & every other person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof the said John Smith & his wife Elizabeth hath hereunto set their hands and seals this day above written.
