WASHINGTON(GA) TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1829 [NEW SERIES To the voters of Wilkes County The undersigned having been several times honored with your confidence, asks again your indulgence for the office of county Surveyor, at the approaching Election in January next. He would do violence to his feelings was he not to return to you his grateful acknowledgement for your kind indulgence in several times placing his humble services to public trust. A renewal of your confidence will call forth his best energies in the discharge of the duties of the office, together with that gratitude which he has ever cherished as the highest offering he could make for your many favors. Caleb Sappington. October 21 1829. Additional Comments: CALEB SAPPINGTON b. December 18, 1787 Wilkes County, Georgia -- d. April 18, 1845 Walton County, Georgia. May 2000, Porter Gilliland, a Sappington, Jarrett researcher writes, "There are good records in Wilkes County and Walton County, (Monroe) on Caleb, your ancestor. He was a surveyor and once owned much of what is now Social Circle. There is a famous buffet restaurant in one of the old colonial homes there. My wife loves to go there and eat at one of the favorite eating places of the late Lewis Grizzard, columnist and humorist from Atlanta." CALEB SAPPINGTON was the son of Richard Sappington (John Sappington, Jr. and Ann Everett, Anne Arundel County, Maryland) and Rebecca Jarrett (Fadda Jarrett and Martha Ivey - Sussex County, Virginia). Caleb married Martha Bankston about 1809. Martha was the daughter of Lawrence Bankston (Revolutionary War Patriot) and Nancy Anne Henderson (daughter of Capt. Joseph Henderson RW and Adelphia Lea) (James Lea RW.) EARLY RECORDS OF GEORGIA VOL. 1 and 2, p. 319: "SAPPINGTON, Caleb took the oath as Ensign 168th Militia Dist. May 11, 1816."
