Miss Annie Putnam, who is the telegraph operator in Madison, is a great-granddaughter of Mrs. Lewis, and therefore closely related to the father of this country. Miss Putnam is also a lineal descendant on the father’s side of General Israel Putnam of revolutional fame. Probably no young lady in America can boast of a more distinguished ancestry than Miss Putnam. She has just received handsome portraits of Colonel and Mrs. Lewis, from relatives in Boston. The portrait of Mrs. Lewis bears a strong resemblance to that of her distinguished brother, General George Washington and while the face is one of great sweetness, it is also marked with an air of commanding presence which would be shown only in the features of a person of the highest breeding. In dress and appearance the portrait of Colonel Lewis is a perfect picture of the old Virginia gentleman and officer. – Washington, Ga.
