Barksdale Funeral services for Mrs. T.J. Barksdale were held at her home, The Cedars, at 3:30 o'clock, Friday, February 24th, with the Rev. T.Z.B. Everton and the Rev. Thomas O. Kay officiating. Burial was in the Sims family lot at Resthaven Cemetery. Mrs. Barksdale died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. She had been ill for several months, but her death from a heart attack was sudden and unexpected. She was the former Will Matt Sims, daughter of Marshall M. Sims and Mary Robert Sims, and was born and reared in Washington. Her death cast a pall of sadness over the entire community, where she had been unsparing of her great gift as a skilled an sympathetic nurse. “Miss Will Matt” entered training after graduation from high school, and for years was head surgical nurse at Elkin Cooper Sanitarium, at that time one of Atlanta's leading hospitals. Later, after returning to Washington to live, she was an angel of mercy in any home where a nurse or even just a comforting word could help. During the dreadful epidemic of influenza in 1918, she kept herself on round-the-clock call to any place where the need seemed greatest. Her contribution to the civic life of Washington also was notable. She was one of the organizers of the first garden club here, and was active in the Woman's Club, the D.A.R. Chapter, and was one of a group who planned and promoted the first ever Tour of Homes ever held here. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Washington. Survivors are a brother, Redding Sims, of New Orleans; Sisters Mrs. Bessie DeVaughn and Mrs. W.R. Latimer, both of Washington, Mrs. Louen Green, Ocala, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. The following nephews served as pallbearers: Marshall S. Reynolds, James Reynolds, Redding DeVaughn, Will DeVaughn, Mac DeVaughn, W.R. Latimer, Jr., Milton Robert, Paul Peniston, and Clifford Green. Additional Comments: She is buried in Resthaven Cemetery in Washington, Georgia.
