Boyd Graveside services for Mrs. Marion Toombs Colley Boyd, 98 [error, should be 94], were held Wednesday afternoon, February 28, at 4 p.m. in Resthaven Cemetery. She died Tuesday, February 27. Mrs. Boyd was a native of Washington, the eldest of the children of the late Frank Harris and Katherine Toombs Colley. One of the earliest successful newspaper women in America, Mrs. Boyd was a reporter and feature writer on the New York Post and the New York Herald. She wrote extensively for some of the leading periodicals. She was the first woman delegate to the National Democratic Convention and was the widow of the late Dr. William Kenneth Boyd who was professor of history and director of libraries at Duke University. In her later years Mrs. Boyd returned to her home in Washington where she continued to be active in writing and reporting, serving as correspondent for Atlanta newspapers. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Mediator in Washington. Survivors include a nephew, Frank Harris Colley of Washington; and two nieces, Mrs. Paul Turner Goldsmith of Washington and Mrs. Jack Bert Reiber of Marietta.
