It is said that he was part Indian, and was born and lived all his life in Wilkes County, near the Taliaferro line. He was born the property of Mr. Wm. Evans, at War Hill, on Kittle creek and belonged to three generations of the Evans family. When the Kittle creek battle was fought between the British and Americans, he was a little child. He lived all his life within three miles of the place of his birth and joined the church and was baptized after he was a hundred years old. He was a noted hunter and fisher, and he continued to fish up to a short time before his death. He walked three miles last year to the river to fish.
