Clifton Barrett and Rev. Owen Hoffman officiating. He died Friday, July 19, at his residence. A lifelong resident of Wilkes County, Mr. Maxwell was a member of Newton Baptist Church and was a retired farmer. He was the son of the late Richard Henry Maxwell and the late Susan Della Combs Maxwell. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mamie Ellis Maxwell of Washington; two sons, Calvin Ellis Maxwell of Miami, Florida, and Gerald Franklin Maxwell of Portland, Tennessee; one brother, W.T. Maxwell of Washington; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Cosby of Washington and Mrs. Odessa Cosby of Augusta; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers included Jack Maxwell, Joel Fanning, Thomas Fanning, Jack Armour, Richard Maxwell, and Lloyd Echols. Hopkins Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Additional Comments: Henry's wife is Mamie Ellis Fanning Maxwell, 1908-1995, daughter of Reuben France Fanning (1868-1941) and Roselyn Mae "Rossie" Armour (1876-1930) of Wilkes County. Henry and Mamie married in Wilkes County 15 November 1924. His parents were married in Wilkes County 19 March 1891.
