He worked first in the firm of Colley and Orr, and later in the firm of Orr and Kopecky. Orr served in the Georgia Legislature from 1957 to 1959. He was an attorney for the City of Washington from 1974 to 1984, and an attorney for the Wilkes County Board of Education as well as for the Rayle Electric Membership Corp. The Augusta (GA) Chronicle, (c) 24 January 2002: Mr. Wilbur Orr WASHINGTON, Ga. - Funeral services for Wilbur Adolphus Orr will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 25 at the First Baptist Church, Washington with Dr. John M. Childers and Rev. Albert Huyck officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Hopkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Orr died Tuesday after a lengthy illness. A native of Wilkes County and a life long resident, he was the son of the late Wilbur Adolphus Orr Sr. and the late Blanche Thaxton Orr. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Orr Witcher. He was a retired attorney who served in the Toombs Judical Circuit for 41 years, first in the firm of Colley and Orr and later in the firm of Orr and Kopecky. Mr. Orr was a very active member of the First Baptist Church where he was recognized as Deacon Emeritus by the church for his many years of service. He served in the Georgia Legislature from 1957 to 1959. He served as attorney for the City of Washington from 1974 to 1984, as attorney for the Wilkes County Board of Education as well for the Rayle Electric Membership Corporation. He served as Trustee of the Mary Willis Regional Library and was honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow by the Washington-Wilkes Lions Club. He also was a member of the Board of the Directors of the Penfield Christian Home. Mr. Orr was a Charter Member of the Wilkes Little Theater Company. Mr. Orr was an avid golfer and eternal Atlanta Braves fan. He is survived by his widow, the former Myrtle Jackson of Washington; his son, Michael Wilbur Orr and daughter-in-law, Patti Darden Orr of Hull; three grandchildren, Julie Witcher of Augusta, David Witcher of Newnan, Jackson Orr of Hull; a brother, Webster Orr of Rayle; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Melvin Pete Kopecky, Tucker Vaughn, Shelby Jackson, Malvin Vaughn, Malcom McDonald and Steve Tyler. Honorary pallbearers will be the Jesse Mercer Sunday School Class, the Washington-Wilkes Lions Club and Mr. S.T. Callaway and Dr. William Brannan. Memorial gifts may be made to the Together We Build Fund of the First Baptist Church of Washington, P.O. Box 603, Washington, GA. 30673.
