Retired school teacher Web posted Tuesday, August 12, 2003 - AugustaChronicle.com WASHINGTON, Ga. - Funeral services for Myrtle Jackson Orr, 80 of Washington will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at 3 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, Washington with Dr. John M. Childers and Rev. Albert W. Huyck Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, Washington. She died Monday, August 11, 2003, after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Orr was a native and life long resident of Wilkes County. She was the daughter of the late Shelby Tucker Jackson and Blanche Moncrief Jackson. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Orr Witcher and her husband, Wilbur A. Orr. Mrs. Orr was a retired elementary school teacher who taught in the Wilkes County School System for over 20 years. She was very active in the First Baptist Church where she taught the Philathea Volunteer Sunday School Class and was a member of the TEL Sunday School Class. Survivors include her son, Michael W. Orr and daughter-in-law, Patti D. Orr of Hull; three grandchildren, Julie Witcher of Augusta, David Witcher of Carrollton and Jackson D. Orr of Hull; a sister, Annie Blanche Vaughn of Rayle and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will include Frank Jackson Jr., Reggie Jackson, Shelby Jackson, Kenneth Callaway, Malvin Vaughn and Malcolm McDonald. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Jackson, Dr. William C. Branan and Don Thompson. Memorial gifts may be made to the Mary Willis Library, 204 East Liberty Street, c/o Celeste Stover, Washington, GA 30673. The family will receive friends today, Wednesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Hopkins Funeral Home. Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
