Mr. Sims had been in failing health for the past year, and was desperately ill in the summer, but rallied and had been well enough recently to be in his place at the Methodist Sunday School, and among his friends down town. He became acutely ill on Wednesday and the end came at 11 O'clock Saturday night. He was born in Wilkes County 79 years ago, the elder of two sons of the late Mary Robert Sims and Marshall Mercer Sims. For many years Mr. Sims was associated with his father in the cotton business here, and was a farmer. In his early manhood he was married to the late Sarah Boyd, who died in 1908. Of this marriage there is one child, a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Sims Way. In later years he married the former Miss Virginia Morris Green, who died about three years ago. Mr. Sims was a Mason, and a devout and devoted member of the Methodist Church and at the services Monday afternoon, the many beautiful flowers were arranged in the church and at the cemetery by the women in whose Sunday School class he had led the devotional every Sunday. The funeral service at the Methodist Church at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon was conducted by the Rev. Hubert Dodd, pastor, and the Rev. H.C. Emory, former pastor. Interment was in Resthaven cemetery, with nephews as pallbearers. James and Marshall Reynolds, Redding DeVaughn, W.R. Latimer, Jr., and Fortson Boyd. Besides his daughter, Mrs. Sara Sims Way, and her adopted son, James Edward Way, of Brunswick, Mr. Sims is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Bessie DeVaughn, Mrs. T.J. Barksdale, Mrs. W.R. Latimer, all of Washington, and Mrs. Louen Green, of Ocala, Fla.; one brother, Redding Sims, of New Orleans; and a large number of nieces and nephews. Additional Comments: James Reynolds is James Erasmus Reynolds, Jr., so of James Erasmus Reynolds, Sr., and Frances Clifford Simms. Redding DeVaughn is Naval Lieutenant Commander James Redding Sherwood DeVaughn, son of McLendon Sherwood DeVaughn and Annie Elisabeth “Bessie” Sims. W.R. Latimer, Jr. is son of William Robert Latimer and Mary Martia Sims. Mrs. T.J. Barksdale is Willamette “Wil Mat” Sims.
