McLaughlin The following seven documents pertain to the administration of the estate of Thomas D. McLaughlin, deceased resident of Wilkes County, and include the guardianship documents of minor children entitled to a share of this estate. The persons receiving shares of this estate, identified below by their county of residence, are thought to be siblings of Thomas D. McLaughlin and the children of Peter McLaughlin, an early settler of Wilkes County: Clarke County: Nathaniel McLaughlin Henry County: Mary McLaughlin, represented by her husband Solomon P. McLaughlin & Luke Turner are held and firmly bound to their Honors the Justices of the Inferior Court for said county, sitting for ordinary purposes, and their successors in office, in the just and full sum of Two Thousand dollars, for the payment of which sum, to the said Justices, and their successors in office, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and administrators, in the whole and for the whole sum, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals, and dated this 1st day of July one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine. THE CONDITION of the above obligation is such, That if the above bound Josiah T. McLaughlin of the goods, chattels and credits of Thomas D. McLaughlin late of this county, deceased, do make a true and perfect inventory of all and singular, the goods, chattels and credits of said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession or knowledge of the said Josiah T. McLaughlin or in the hands or possession of any other person or persons for him and the same, so made, do exhibit in the said Court of Ordinaty, when he shall be thereunto required: and such goods, chattels and credits, do well and truly administer according to law, and do make a just and true account of his actings and doings therein, when he shall be thereunto required by the Court of Ordinary for the said county, and all the rest of the goods, chattels and credits, which shall be found remaining upon the account of the said administration, the same first allowed by the court, shall deliver and pay to such person or persons, respectively, as are entitled to the same by law; and if it shall hereafter appear, that any last will and testament was made by the said deceased, and the same be proved before the court, and the executors obtain a certificate of the probate thereof, and the said Josiah T. McLaughlin for letters of administration de bonis non upon the Estate of Thos D McLaughlin It appearing to the Court that Due notice it is on motive intent that the said letters be and they are hereby granted to said Josiah T McLaughlin upon his giving bond and security in the sum of Two thousand dollars with Luke Turner & Joseph Ring as his securities for the faithful performance of the Trust Confidence to him. It is for this intent that Luke Turner are of said Securities be permitted to sign the bond in relation. 4. Wilkes County Letters of Guardianship, 1832-1876, page 98 State of Georgia Wilkes County By their Honors the Justices of the Inferior Court of said County, sitting for ordinary purposes TO James D. Willis of said County, GREETINGS Whereas Joseph McLaughlin, Owen McLaughlin, Sarah T (or F) McLaughlin, Orphans of James McLaughlin-- deceased, one possessed in (left blank) own right of a considerable estate, by virtue(?) whereof the power of granting the guardianship of the said orphans to us is manifestly known to belong, and for the better(?) occuring the estate and more ample maintenance and education of the said orphan (space to add an 's' left blank) and from the integrity and confidence reposed in you, we do hereby commit the tuition, education and guardianship of the said orphans to you the said James D. Willis you assenting thereto by your acceptance of these letters: herein charging you , that you maintain and cause to be educated said orphan(blank) in such manner as shall be suitable to their interest and circumstances during their minority, and that you inquire into, and take charge of their estate, both real and personal, and all other things to do, which by law you ought to do, for your said ward(blank) of all which a true and perfect account you shall render to the first term of the Court of Ordinary for said county, in every year, during your continuance in office. And lastly, we do hereby constitute and appoint you, the said James D. Willis guardian of the aforesaid orphans during their minority. (no signatures or dates contained in this document) 5. Wilkes County Guardian Bonds, 1831-1832, p. 176 State of Georgia Wilkes County Know all men by these presents, that we James D. Willis & Luke Turner are held and firmly bound to their Honors the Justices of the Inferior Court for said County, sitting for ordinary purposes, and their successors in office, in the just and full sum of Two hundred dollars, for the payment of which sum, to the said Justices and their successors in office, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals, and dated this 13th day of April one thousand eight hundred and forty one. The Condition of the above obligation is such, That whereas the said James D. Willis was this day appointed guardian to Joseph McLaughlin orphan of James McLaughlin, dec'd, now if the said James D. Willis do well and truly demean himself as guardian aforesaid, agreeably to letters of guardianship bearing even date herewith, and agreeably to law, in such cases made and provided, the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. Pope are held and firmly bound unto their honours the Justices of the Inferior Court sitting for ordinary purposes for said county, and their successors in office, in the just and full sum of Ten thousand dollars, for the payment of which sum, to the said judges and their successors, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and administrators, in the whole and for the whole sum jointly, and severally, and firmly, by these presents, sealed with our seals, and dated this second day of November 1835-- THE condition of the above obligation is such, that if the above bound Thomas L. Wootten Administrator of the goods, chattels and credits of Thomas D.
