Sherrer Isces@mindspring.com ==================================================================== ************************************************************************* ************************************************************************* Georgia } In witness of God Amen Wilkes County } I James Shearer(as spelled in will) of the County Aforesaid(?) infirm in Body but of perfect disposing mind make and ordain this my last will and testament. In manner & form following to wit, after all my just debts are paid I do will all the remainder of my estate to be equally divided between my six(?) Children and Anna Steele, the daughter of Eve Steele to have one seventh part to be divided equally between the said Anna Steele and all the heirs of her mother in equal degree. To wit one seventh part to William Sherrer (as spelled in will), one seventh part to Polly Dukes, one seventh part to John Sherrer, one seventh part to Susannah Sherrer, one seventh part to Nancy Sherrer and one seventh part to Elijah Sherrer and also one seventh part to the aforementioned Anna Steele & all heirs of Eve Steele's body in equal degree with the said Anna. I James Shearer do also will & bequeath unto my beloved wife, Anne Sherrer a fair and sufficient maintenance to be equally found & furnished by all the legatees unto the satisfaction of my wife aforesaid (it being her wish & I(?)). I James Sherrer do also nominate constitute and appoint William Shearer, James Rutledge Junior my executors. (Transcriber's note: (?) are questionable but do not appear to adversely change the contents of the will.) ************************************************************************* In the will of James Sherrer, the names of slaves were unreadable, however, the appraisal of the estate reveals the following: 1. (old)Woman - Jude 2. Woman - Silvey and Child - Jack 3. Boy - George 4. Girl - Molly 5. Girl - Ginny?(not clear) 6. Girl - salla? (maybe Sally) 7. Girl - Silvey 8. Boy - Dick These slaves were divided to the heirs as follows: William Sherrer ---- Silvey and child Jack Girl Launena (note that this is not in the appraisal, I can not explain the difference.) John Sherrer --------- girl Molly Elijah Sherrer boy Dick James Rutledge ------------Girl Sally Unidentified ---------woman Jude ----------------------Girl Matilda (note this one was not in the appraisal either) These individuals were identified in the list furnished to the court by the executors and may have more meaning than the appraisal list. At best, they are both confusing. I have not found George, if he existed. The appraisal is somewhat suspect.
