Wilkinson County Georgia Map - GMDs File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by pdominy@accucomm.net Table of Contents page: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/wilkinson.htm Georgia Table of Contents: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm On the 1988 version, districts are labeled by number but not by name. Earlier versions of the map showed both the name and the number. Strictly speaking, the districts are Georgia Militia Districts, and their boundaries are shown with dashed lines or the label "(M.D.L.)" when the line follows a geographic feature such as a creek. Look for a label such as "G.M.D. 327" to identify the number of the district. Reading early histories may be confusing since some references name districts by the militia captain of the time or by some other name like "Forks District" (now Passmore). I have no earthly idea if the lines on these districts have ever changed over time. Consider this possible. The following is the District Number with the corresponding name: 327 Irwinton (center of the county) 328 Bloodworth (northeast part of county) 329 Passmore (east part, north of Toomsboro) 330 Lords (east part, south of Toomsboro) 331 Ramah (west part of county) 332 Griffin (southeast part of county) 352 High Hill (south central part of county) 353 Turkey Creek (south part of county) 1245 Bethel (southwest part of county) 1505 Ivey (northwest part of county) ======================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
