According to Cecil Fountain and June Edwards, John Brooks was the son of 
Phillip and Elizabeth Ingram Brooks.  He was also the husband of Martha Mercer 
Brooks.  He served and died in the C.S.A. and was buried in the west end of 
the Vicksburg City Cemetery in a mass grave.  A marker was placed here in the 
Asbury Cemetery.
