In the name of God, amen. I, David Holliman, in the State and County, Being of advanced age and knowing that I must shortly depart this life, deem it right and proper, both as respects my family and myself that I should make a distribution of the property which a kind Providence has blessed me, do make this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others heretofore made by me. ITEM 1 I desire and direct that my body be buried in a decent and Christian like manner, suitable tothe circumstances and conditions in life; my soul I trust will return to rest with God who gave it, as I hope for eternal salvation through the merits and atonement of the blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whose religion I have professed and that I humble trust and have enjoyed for 21 years. ITEM 2 I desire and direct that all my just debts be paid wiwthout delay by my Executor hereinafter appointed as I am unwilling my creditors should be delayed in their rights, especially as there is no necessity for delay. ITEM 3 I give and devise to my two youngest children to=wit; David A. B. Holliman (married Laura Rye), and Anne B Holliman (Married Robert B. Yarborough), 150 Acres of land known as the McKinney place and my Negro man, Elic, about 35 or 40 years of age; one bed and furniture and one cow and calf, and my beloved wife, Charlotte, to have the use of them during her natural life, then all to be sold and ewually divided between teh two above named children, TO-WIT: David A. B. Holliman and Anne B. Holliman; the request made to my wife in lieu of whole dower. ITEM 4 I give and bequeath to my son, Virgil, (note-Killed in Civil War), one bed and furniture. (Virgil did marry) ITEM 5. I give unto my son, Joseph, one bed and furniture, (he married Virgil's widow) ITEM 6 I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane, a bed and furniture. ITEM 7 I give and bequeath to my daughter, Frances, one bed and furniture. ITEM 8 I give and bequeath to my children, to=wit: John W. Holliman, James Holliman, Virgil Holliman, Jane Holliman, Joseph Holliman, Frances Holliman, Mary A Pinkleton, all teh balance of my estate, to=wit: My homeplace, 40 acres of land, more or less, My Negro woman, Tilda about 25 yearsold, My Negro woman, 'Scott about 11 years of age, my Negro boy Jerry, about seven years of age, my Negro boy Jim about four years of age. All my stock of sorts; horses, mules, cattle and hogs and plantation tools, wagon and cart. All to remain together for the term of one year, then to be sold and equally divided between the above name children together wit the crops. ITEM 9 I hereby constitute and appoint my nephew, T. J. Holliman, Executor of this my last will and testament, This Nov. 16th 1858 (signed David Holliman) Recorded in Minute book 2, 1856-66, page 18 probated on December 1858 COMMENTary: David Holliman married Sarah Branan on 9 Jul 1822 in Putnam county, Georgia. The History of the family does not show that he married a second time. Wilkinson County Records indicate a second wife named Charlotte Adams and by her the children mentioned in Item 3 were by the second wife. The family history shows that David was the son of David who was born in 1757 and died 1815, a Rev. soldier who settled in Wilkes County, Georgia. Thomas Jefferson Holliman, born 1809 son of John and Prudence Hooks Holliman, first wife was Nancy Spivey and second was Martha Harper. (his will will be in the next email) gotta run. Sylvia
