Will of William Lord 13 Sep 1862 Wilkinson County, GA Contributed by John Lord In the name of God,amen.....I, William Lord,of said state and county, being of advanced age and knowing that I must shortly die, deem it right and proper both as it represents myself and family,that I should make disposition of the property which a kind providence has bestowed upon me.I therefore being of sound mind and disposing memory, make and declare and publish this as my last will and testament, here by revoking all others heretofore by me. Item1. I desire and direct that my body be buried in a decent and christian like manner, suitable to the circumstances and conditions in life; my soul I trust shall return to God who gave it. Item 2. I desire and direct that all my just debts be paid without delay as I am unwilling that my creditors should be delayed of their rights, especially as there is no necessity for delay. Item 3. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Sarah Ann Lord, for during the term of her natural life only, the following property,to-wit lot of land 231, lying and being in the third district of said county,containing 2021/2 acres of land,more or less, I also give and bequeath to my wife Sarah Ann,,for,and during her natural life only,my negro man Crawford, about 22 years of age and yellow complexion;my negro girl,Ann about 24 years of age and yellow complexion.My young negro boy Sam H., son of Grace,about 4 years of age.Also two mules such as she may choose among my stock of mules,three cows and calves such as she may choose among all my stock of cattle. Two sows and pigs,such as she may choose among my 10 head of meat hogs.And may have wagon and horse-cart and buggy;two feather beds, steads and bedding,such as she may choose.All of my cooking utensils also sufficiency of farming tools to use on the place determined by my executor hereinafter named.To have and to hold the beforenamed property to said wife,Sarah Ann, for, and during her natural life aforesaid.And at the death of my said wife,all the said property,both real and personal,to go to and be equally divided between my three sons, to-wit James M. Lord, George W. Lord and John M. Lord.It is also my will that my said wife shall claim no part of my land by the way of dower,the above named property being given her by me expressly in lieu of right to dower,of,and out of my land.She is not to claim any dower out of same. Item 4.Have heretofore given unto my daughter, Elizabeth Smith, late wife of Thomas P.Smith now deceased,and former wife of Mark Deese and John Stevens,household furniture,cattle and having given her children,one negro named Mary,I shall not give said daughter's children any part of my estate. Item 5.I give and bequeath to my said daughter,Milly Holder, wife of John Holder,and her children forever free from the disposition and encumbrances of present or any future husband,my negro girl Amandy,daughter of Jane, about five years of age.And have heretofore given unto my said daughter, Milly, wife of John holder,and her children,one negro girl named Covy, considerable household furniture,cattle,etc.being about as much as I consider I ought to give my said daughter and hereby appoint my worthy son-in-law John Holder,trustee for the person and property given above to my said daughter,Milly and children. Item 6.I give and bequeath to my said son, James M. Lord, my negro girl Gracie,I also give,bequeath and devise to my said son James M.. Lord,at the death of said wife,Sarah Ann,one-third of the property real and personal,that is in the third item of this my last will and testament, giving to my wife Sarah Ann,during her natural life,to have and to hold the same to himself,his heirs and assigns forever.Having hertofore given to my said son James M. Lord,one negro boy Jordan,one negro girl Margaret, one square of land and one horse,I deem the above named property sufficient for him together with that heretofore given to him. Item 7.I give and bequeath to my son,George W. lord ,my negro girl,Emily about 21 years of age,and dark complexion.I also give,bequeath and devise unto my son,George W. Lord,at the death of said wife,Sarah Ann,one-third part of all property,both real and personal,which I have in the third item of this my last will and testament,given to said wife during the term of her natural life,and as I have heretofore given my said son, George W.Lord one negro boy Henry, and negro girl Coley,money to buy land and horse,I deem the above named property a sufficiency for him together with that heretofore given to him. Item 8.I give and bequeath unto my daugther,Nancy Deese,and her children forever,my negro woman,Jane,about 27 years of age,and her son,Lige about three years of age,both of dark complexion and as I have heretofore given to my daughter Nancy Deese,one negro girl named,Fruly,and household furniture,the said negros Jane and Fruly,is all the property I shall give my said daughter,Nancy, and her children out of my estate. Item 9.I give and bequeath to my son, John M. lord,my negro girl Hetta, about 12 years of age and dark complexion.I give and bequeath and devise to my son John M.Lord,at the death of my said wife ,Sarah Ann,one-third part of all property real and personal,which is in the third item of this my last will and testament,given to my wife Sarah Ann,during her natural life.And as I have given heretofore to my said son,John M. Lord,one negro boy named Green,one negro boy named Easom Lord; one horse and cattle,I deem the above name property sufficient property for him together with that heretofore given to him. Item 10.I give and bequeath to the children of my deceased son,Stephen Lord, to-wit; Mary Ann Lord,James Lord,Iverson Lord and Rosa Ann,a negro woman,old Ginny,about 60 years of age and dark complexion .And as I have heretofore given my said son,Stephen Lord,a negro named Burke,one cattle and one horse,the said negro woman ,my old Ginny, is all the property I shall now give his children out of my estate Item 11.Having given to my son,Jesse Lord,one square of land,one horse and cattle,one negro girl named Manda,and one negro girl named Devoney,it is therefore all that I shall give his children out of my estate. Item 12. The residue of my estate,both real and personal,after paying my just debts,funeral expenses and legacies,I desire and direct shall be sold,the proceeds equally divided between my three sons John M.Lord, George W. Lord and James M.Lord Item 13. I hereby appoint and constitute my beloved sons James M. Lord and George W.
