JOHN JASPER MASSEY Rev. John Jasper Massey pastored the Kimball Methodist Church in Worth County, Georgia as well as the Arno Church which is located at the crossroads of Highway 93 and Highway 37 in Mitchell County, Georgia. He was born December 26, 1844 and died May 22, 1922, being buried in the Kimball Methodist Church Cemetery in Worth County. He was the son of Abraham (Abram)Jones Massey and Elizabeth Ann C. Houck who was from the Orangeburg area of South Carolina. His grandparents were Abel and Elizabeth Jones Massey (see Washington County, Georgia genweb for that information). They were from Franklin County, North Carolina into Washington County, Georgia about 1814. His great-grandfather was Richard Massey of Franklin County, North Carolina, formerly of Virginia. Rev. John Jasper Massey married Mary Nelms, born November 17, 1855 in Baker County, Georgia, and who died December 21, 1943, buried beside her husband in Kimball Methodist Church Cemetery, Worth County, Georgia. Mary was the daughter of Jesse Nelms born 1822 who served as Traverse Juror of Mitchell County in 1858 and died two years later in 1860. Jesse's wife, Elizabeth Mahala (last name unknown) was born April 1827 in Georgia and died after 1900, she is buried at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Sales City, Georgia. Mary's grandparents were Rev. Curtis Nelms and Mary A. Faircloth Nelms who are buried at the Historical Mt. Enon Church in Mitchell County, Georgia where he served as Pastor. The children of Rev. John Jasper Massey and Mary Nelms Massey were: John A. Massey, born October 15, 1873, died October 9, 1906, buried Kimball Methodist Church Cemetery, Worth County, Georgia, married Jennie whose last name may have been Horne. Known children: l son born and died October 24, 1895, another son born and died September 24, 1896. Virginia Massey, born 1875 Worth County, Georgia. Elizabeth (Lizzie) Massey, born October 1878 Worth County, Georgia, married Elbert W. Turner, born September 1872 Georgia. Known children: Ossie L. Turner born May 1897, George L. Turner born April 1900, Mae Turner, Flora Turner married Mr. West, Dollie Turner, Lailer Turner, Ervin Turner. Ossie Massey married Bruner Lee. Children: Jimmie Lee married Lorene Stancil, Vadie Lee, Rufus Lee, Roy Lee, Dallas Lee, Myrtie Mae Lee married Tommy Bragg, Dorothy Lee. Ida (Hattie) Massey born January 1883 married Rev. Joe Varnadore/Varnadoe. Hardie George Massey born april 1885 Worth County, Georgia. Bessie Mae Massey born April 1887 married Ensley Hathcock. Raymond Massey born October 8, 1893 Worth County, Georgia, died May 27, 1916, buried at Kimball Methodist Church Cemetery, Worth County, Georgia, (in the old section of the cemetery).
