Hairlson and Pool -Menu- Soup for too..... $4.00 Roast Beef......... 4.00 Stewed Chicken...... 11.00 Baked Chicken........ 11.00 Breads......... 20.00 Coffee in jug not wanted. . . -Desert- Apple Dumpling...... $6.00 Potato Custard........ 14.00 Peach Pie........ 5.00 Cake and Wine..... 10.00 Total cost of dinner.... $95.00 To explain this wonderful repast it is necessary to give the following particulars: Mr. Abe Odom who lives near Warwick, Worth county, and does his trading in the Artesian City The distance he has to travel re- quires two days, and Mr. Odom's good lady always prepares a bountiful lunch basket for the trip. Mr. Odom came to town Sunday night, did his trading Monday, and was preparing to drive out in the evening. Hairl- son and Pool, two young men, were standing around Cook's wagon yard at the time Mr. Odom was hitching up his mules. They spied the well- filled basket, and watching their chance they stole it from the wagon and retired to the ruins of Tift's mill and consumed the delicious contents. Mr. Odom, after getting ready to leave, decided to eat dinner, but missed his basket. He "smelt a rat", and began a search, and soon ran upon his self-invited guests enjoy- ing his dinner. It is an old saying that a hungry man is desperate. so it was in this case. Mr Odom swore out a warrant for the boys, and at their trial before Judge Jones, yes- terday, they pleaded guilty, and were fined $46.95 each. They did not have the required amount, and were jailed. They will likely have friends here to-day to pay them out." The parties concerned in the steal ing of Mr. Odom' basket, are also, the Local blushes to acknowledge, citizens of Worth county. It is cer- tainly very humiliating to know that any who claim citizenship with grand old Worth could stoop so low as to, in any way, be mixed up in an escapade of the kind described by the Albany News. Shame on them. Additional Comments: The text is entered in the line-by-line format of the original column.
