(Jim) Carroll williamcarrollj@bellsouth.net March 19, 2009, 5:01 pm The Sylvester Local News 1-17-1984 Mrs. Mazzie Lee Smith The funeral service for Mrs. Mazzie Lee Smith, 97, of Sylvester, who died January 13 in the Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Americus following a period of declining health, was conducted at 2PM January 15 in the Banks Funeral home Chapel with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. Grady Morey officiated. Born in Worth County on February 22, 1886 to the late Will and Lala Johnson McElmurry, Mrs. Smith had lived in Americus for the past 15 years, moving there from Soperton, where she had lived for the previous ten years. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Soperton. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lola Reynolds of Carrollton and Mrs. Ola Morris of Albany; one son, Carl Robert Smith of Albany; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Mae Burt of Moultrie and Mrs. Annie Cobb of Charlotte, NC; 20 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. Five of Mrs. Smith's children preceding her in death were Charlie Elbert Carroll, Oscar V. Smith, Mamie Lois Webb, Jim Will Carroll, and Frank P. Smith. Pallbearers were Steve Smith, Gerald Smith, Keith Smith, Carroll Webb, Gary Morris, and Frankie Morris. Banks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Additional Comments: Mazzie was first married to Charlie Columbus Carroll who died 2-12-1909. Her second husband was Taylor Smith.
