HIND, KAMAAINA, 77, DIES ON BIG ISLE Mrs. Hannah Pearce Low Hind, 77, one of Hawaii’s best known kamaainas and widow of the late Senator Robert Hind, kamaaina rancher, died at her home at the Puuwaawaa Ranch on the island of Hawaii at 4:50 o’clock Monday* afternoon. She had been ill about two years. Funeral services will be announced later. A great-granddaughter of John Parker, founder of the huge Parker Ranch on the Big Island, Mrs. Hind, whose friends in Hawaii were legion, and who was affectionately known as “Aunt Hannah,” was born at Hanalei, Kauai, the daughter of John S. Low and Martha Kepapa Low. She was born Jan. 27, 1870. Most of her girlhood was spent on the Parker homestead on the Big Island, and she was married to Senator Hind in Honolulu on April 26, 1892. Throughout her married life Mrs. Hind took an active interest in church and religious affairs, also in activities of a charitable nature. Her husband, Senator Hind, died in Honolulu on Dec. 29, 1838, at the age of 73. He was one of the most colorful figures in Hawaiian political life, and rose from the position of livestock overseer on the Hawi Plantation on Hawaii, to one of the Territory’s outstand-ranchers and legislators. Mrs. Hind is survived by three daughters, Mrs. William Paris, Mrs. Mona Hind Holmes and Mrs. Erma Lillie, and by two sons, R. Leighton Hind and Robson K. Hind. Also surviving is a brother, Eben P. Low, and a sister, Clara Low, the latter being on the mainland. Grandchildren include Charles W. Lucas, Jr., Patricia Kirsche, Bobby Hind, Margaret Paris, William Paris and Kuakini Cummins. Surviving nieces are Mrs. Clorinda Low Lucas, Mrs. Maude Hind Wodehouse, Mrs. Eva Hind Edwards, Mrs. Carl Allen, Mrs. Annabel Ruddle, Mrs. Carol Lange and Stella Akana. Nephews surviving are E. Woods Low, Sanford Low, John Low, Samuel Kaaua, Jack Kaaua, Archie Kaaua, James Hind and Edward Kaaua.
