Cristy Thursday ordered a decree entered giving possession of the McInerny Block, Fort and Merchant Sts., to the children of the late Edward A. McInerny. The property is valued at between $250,000 and $500,000. The decree follows a petition to quiet title to the property filed last year by the sons and daughters of Mr. McInerny, who died in Honolulu in 1896. Michael McInerny, who founded the McInerny business interests in Honolulu at the Fort and Merchant St. site nearly 100 years ago, willed this property “to the lawful issue of his children.” The children of Michael McInerny were Edward A. McInerny, James D. McInerny, William H. McInerny and Ella McInerny, all of whom are now dead. Under the terms of the Michael McInerny will the property was to be turned over to the heirs of his children upon the death of the last of his own children. William H. McInerny, who died last year, was the last of the children. Edward A. McInerny was the only child of Michael McInerny who left surviving children. His children, who have been given title to the property involved in the suit are: Gertrude McInerny Hermann of Stockton, Cal.; Mrs. Sybil McInerny Dominis of San Francisco; George T. McInerny, E. Herbert McInerny and Mary McInerny of Honolulu. Mrs. Hermann was represented by Attorney Charles E. Cassidy, Mrs. Dominis by Attorney Livingston Jenks, George and Herbert McInerny by Attorney Edward N. Silva, and Mary McInerny, whose interests are protected under a trust deed to the Bishop Trust Co., by Attorney Charles A. Gregory of the McInerny Foundation. The property, which consists of 9,583 square feet of land with improvements, has an assessed valuation for tax purposes of $116,720.
