Orr jessicanorr@gmail.com March 2, 2012, 8:18 pm UNKNOWN NEWSPAPER November 5, 1949 Historic Kawaiahao church will be the setting today for the wedding of Miss Martha Billie Fernandez and Milton Desha Beamer, Jr., two popular members of honolulu’s younger set. They will be married at 5:30 p.m. by the bridegroom’s granduncle, the Rev. Stephen L. Desha Jr., in a setting of white plumerias and maile vines. The lovely island greens were sent from Hilo by another of Mr. Beamer’s many kamaaina relatives, Mrs. P. C. Beamer, who is his grandmother. An all white satin gown with long sleeves and sweetheart neckline has been chosen by the bride, who will be escorted to the altar by her father. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Fernandez, 1732 Wilhelmina Rise. The bridegroom’s parents are Supervisor and Mrs. Milton Desha Beamer, 910 Alewa drive. A cathedral veil and Juliet cap will complete the bridal dress, complemented by a bouquet of white Singapore plumerias. Her only jewelry will be a pearl necklace from her grandmother, Mrs. Emily Fernandez. The eight feminine attendants will wear identical gowns designed and made by the bride, who also created her own gown. Miss Barbara Jean Fernandez is to be her sister’s maid of honor. Her two piece model will include a white organdy pinafore over a pink birds eye pique sun dress with cap sleeves. In yellow will be Misses Mona Kahalewai and Milwarde Cooper, while it’ll be blue for Misses Yvonne Boyd and Evelyn Desha and gray for Misses Helen Beamer and Ivanelle Mountcastle, all bridesmaids. The attendants’ bouquets will have pink plumerias. Pink flower girl costumes will be worn by Leimomi Roxsburg and Mary Jane Allen. Mrs. Fernandez has selected an aqua crepe gown for her daughter’s wedding and the bridegroom’s mother will wear blue satin. Both will have orchid corsages. Best man will be Neal Ryan and ushers are Mervin Gilliland, Edward Young, Woosley Rice, Buddy Oliviera, Charles Fernandez Jr. and George Fernandez. Vickie Ii will sing at the afternoon wedding, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Louise P. Tolles. After the ceremony, a reception at the Kamehameha Alumni clubhouse has been planned for more than 1,000 guests. The bride and bridegroom are graduates of Kamehameha schools. She attended Drake university in Des Moines, Ia., and the University of Hawaii. Phi Sigma Rho and Hui Hauoli, social sororities, claim her as a member. She was high school junior class president and is with Service Center Sporting Goods. Young Mr. Beamer was in the U. S. army during World War II and later attended the University of Hawaii. He is a SSS social fraternity member. He is with the Hawaii National Guard.
