Baker, founder and pastor of the Full Gospel Mission, Inc. and an ordained bishop of the House of Prayer, died at 9:35 p.m. Friday, February 11, 1949, at his home in Kaneohe, Oahu. He was born in Honolulu, Oahu, on December 22, 1885. Before he founded the Full Gospel Mission, he was ordained to the gospel ministry by the elders-in-fellowship at the International Christian Church, headed by Rev. Franco Manuel, Rev. Samuel Clevenger and Dr. Lorraine Anderson. He was the son of the late David Baker, former senator from Hawaii. David Baker was also a district magistrate of Kona district. WAS TEACHER IN KONA He was a graduate of Iolani and Kamehameha schools. At 19 he became a teacher in Kona and later became a principal teacher. He joined the national guard during World War I and was honorably discharged as a captain of infantry, U.S. army. Mr. Baker has been with the city and county and territory of Hawaii as engineer, surveyor, and draftsman. During World War II he served as inspector, engineer, and draftsman with the U.S.E.D. After World War II, he returned to the City Employment and served until he was stricken with a heart attack. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 22. HAS MANY SURVIVORS Surviving him is the widow, the former Annie J. M. K. Herring. Also, George W. K. Baker, Jr., and Fred H. K. Baker, well known musician, sons. Daughters are Mrs. Juanita K. Mattos and Georgianna Baker. Grandsons are Thomas Baker, George W. K. Baker, III, Virgil K. Baker, Fred K. Baker, Jr., Charles K. Mattos Jr., Lawrence K. B. Mattos, William Lee Jr. Granddaughters are Mrs. Eloise Martin, Leilani Lee, Alice K. Baker, Andrea N. Baker, Myrna K. Baker, Lehualani Baker, Mae Monica K. Baker, and Pamela Haunani Featheran. Great grand children: Paul Dennis Martin, Paulette Dennise Martin in Omaha, Nebraska. He is also survived by his brothers William Baker in Omaha, Nebraska and David P. Baker, of Honolulu. BODY ON VIEW The body will be on view on Friday, February 18, and the burial on Saturday, February 19, at Diamond Head Memorial cemetery. Bishop Baker had been married 40 years.
