William Warren Chamberlain, 77, of 1719 Dole St., member of a pioneer missionary family, died today at 6:10 a.m. at the Queen’s hospital after an illness of several months. Funeral services over the ashes will be held in the Kawaihao Missionary cemetery at 4:30 Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Henry P. Judd officiating. Mr. Chamberlain was born in Honolulu on February 13, 1873. He was the youngest son of Warren and Celia Wright Chamberlain, and the grandson of Levi Chamberlain, noted pioneer missionary, who came to Hawaii in 1823 with the second company of missionaries sent out by the American Board. SURVIVORS LISTED Mr. Chamberlain is survived by his widow, Clio Newton Chamberlain, two daughters, Miss Clio O. Chamberlain, Mrs. Jack H. Beadle, and four grandchildren, William W. Chamberlain II of Washington, D.C., Julie C., Carol A., and Nancy J. Beadle of Honolulu. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Helen C. Ives of River Forest, Ill. He was educated at Oahu college (now Punahou School), and at Bryant and Stratton Business College in Chicago. Upon his return to Honolulu he engaged in various commercial enterprises. In 1900, he joined the late Attorney E. O. Smith, handling for him a rapidly expanding trust business. In 1911 this department was incorporated as the Guardian Trust Co., Ltd., and Mr. Chamberlain was chosen treasurer. When this company merged with the Bishop Trust Co., Ltd., in 1920, Mr. Chamberlain became a director, member of the executive committee and vice president of the latter corporation, which position he resigned on January 31, 1950. COLLEGE TRUSTEE Mr. Chamberlain held many positions of trust and importance. He was made a trustee of Oahu college in 1917, and in 1923 was elected treasurer serving to June 1933. He continued as a trustee of the Oahu college until June 30, 1937. for many years, Mr. Chamberlain was treasurer of the Hawaiian Mission Children’s Society. He also served on the chamber of commerce committee on charities and social welfare, and on the general advisory board of the Salvation Army. He was a member of the house of representatives at the 1925 session of the legislature. Following the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy, Mr. Chamberlain served from 1895 to 1897 in Company B of the Honolulu Rifles, and as a lieutenant of the mounted reserve. At the time of his death, Mr. Chamberlain was a director of the Bishop Trust Co., Ltd., Oahu Railway and Land Co., Bank of Hawaii, Alexander & Baldwin, Ltd., and McBryde Sugar Co., Ltd.
