Orr jessicanorr@gmail.com February 16, 2012, 4:56 pm Unknown newspaper, February 28, 1949 LAST RITES TODAY FOR MISS DEVERILL, VETERAN TEACHER Services will be held at 4:30 p.m. today for Miss Florence Kapililani Deverill, kamaaina teacher who died Sunday* afternoon at her home at 807 21st Ave. The Rev. Frederick McDonald, of St. Clement’s Epicsopal church, will officiate in the services to be held at Williams mortuary. Private services are to be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Nuuanu cemetery, with only members of the family present. Miss Deverill, a teacher in territorial public schools for 45 years, died in her sleep at the home of her brother, Percy G. H. Deverill, retired vice president of the Bank of Hawaii. Survivors include three brothers and a sister, Percy G. H. Deverill of Honolulu, N. Stanford Deverill of Hilo Sugar Co., W. E. Herbert Deverill of Los Altos, Calif., and Mrs. Otto Ludewig of Honolulu. Miss Deverill was born at Lihue, Kauai, October 14, 1882, and was educated in the public schools and at St. Andrew’s priory in Honolulu. After receiving her teacher’s certificate at the territorial normal school in 1902, she taught at Hanalei, Kauai, and at Manoa and Lunalilo schools on Oahu. She retired in 1947.
