MAYOR FERN'S WIFE IS DEAD Prominent Hawaiian Lady Passes away-Resolutions by Supervisors. Mrs. J. J. Fern, wife of the mayor of Honolulu, died yesterday, quite unexpectedly, of heart disease. She had been ill for four days, at her home in Palama, buti it was not thought that she was in a serious condition. Mrs. Fern was prominent in several Hawaiian societies, which will take part in the funeral, to be held next Sunday. The board of supervisors, instead of transacting the expected business yesterday at its noon meeting, passed the following resolutions, introduced by Supervisor Quinn: "Whereas: It has pleased Almighty God to remove by death Sheba Fern, beloved wife of the Honorable Joseph J. Fern, Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu. Resolved, That we the members of the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of Honolulu, do hereby tender to the Honorable Joseph J. Fern, and the members of his family, our sincere sympathy with them in their affliction. And Further Resolved, That as a mark of respect, the offices of the City and County of Honolulu be closed during the day and that these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of the board of supervisors and a copy of the same transmitted of the family of the deceased." Many other expressions of sympathy were received by the mayor. The deceased was very widely known ouside of her own family, and the funeral will be notable for the number of mourners.
