Forbes, kamaaina resident of Hawaii, died at Queen’s hospital Monday afternoon after an illness of three weeks. He was 82 years old last Friday. Of early missionary stock, he was the son of the Rev. Anderson O. Forbes and Maria Chamberlain Forbes, and grandson of Levi Chamberlain and the Rev. Cochran Forbes. He had been associated with the Atherton estate for over twenty five years until his retirement in 1935. Previous to that he was with the law firm of the late W. O. Smith. He had been interested all his life in Christian activities and was treasurer of Central Union church for many years. RESPECTED AND ESTEEMED Respected and esteemed by all who knew him, he was for many years active in civic and community affairs, especially in religious fields. He was vitally interested in the Hawaiian Board of Missions, the American Board of Missions and the YMCA of which he had been a member for over fifty years and in whose program he had taken a very active part. He was one of the oldest graduates of Punahou at last year’s alumni reunion. SURVIVING RELATIVES He is survived by his widow, Kate W. Forbes; two sisters, Maria R. Forbes and Harriet G. Forbes; two sons, Theodore W. Forbes, associate professor at the University of Hawaii, and Frederick B. Forbes, formerly scout executive of the Boy Scouts of America and now insurance underwriter with the Hawaiian Insurance Agencies, Ltd.; three daughters, Mrs. Roy D. Lopp of Ft. Ord, Calif., Mrs. Harvey Vollrath and Mrs. William Norwood of Honolulu and by nine grandchildren. He is widely known in Hawaii with a host of friends among the kamaaina families. Burial will be in the family plot in the mission cemetery at Kawaiahao church following services at Central Union church at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
