LUDLOFF, OLD GUARD VETERAN, DIES Otto Carl Ludloff, a captain in the Old Guard of Hawaii, died in the St. Francis hospital at 2:05 Tuesday* afternoon. Capt. Ludloff, who would have been 82 years old on Monday, April 26, died of a heart ailment. He was one of the few remaining Old Guard men who helped overthrow the monarchy and Queen Liliuokalani in 1893, and so paved the way for the annexation of Hawaii to the United States in 1898. The captain also participated in the guard action which quelled the 1895 revolution known as the Wilcox revolution. He was the founder of the kennels bearing his name at 1321 Palolo Ave. Surviving Capt. Ludloff are the widow, Mary C.; two sons, Dr. Otto W. and Richard H., of Honolulu; two daughters, Mrs. Johanna Dexter, and Mrs. J. R. Quintero, both of Honolulu, and nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Friends may call at Williams mortuary Friday between 6 and 9 p.m. Services will start at 4 p.m. Saturday and burial in Nuuanu cemetery will follow the services. Capt. Ludloff was born in Saxon-Cobuck-Gotha, Germany, in 1866. He came to the islands on the German ship Ehrlens in 1883 to work for the Waianae Co. He and Mrs. Ludloff celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in January, 1947.
