There friends will honor the memory of Dr. Theodore Richards, who died at his home, 2135 Oahu Ave., at 5:30 Saturday afternoon. The Rev. Edward Kahale will officiate, assisted by the Rev. J. Leslie Dunstan, head of the Hawaiian board of missions. Private interment, attended only by members of the family, will follow at the Kawaiahao mission cemetery. The Rev. Henry P. Judd will officiate. The Williams mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. No Flowers The family requests that no flowers be sent. Those wishing to remember Dr. Richards may do so by contributing to the Kokokahi Community Trust fund. This is one of the projects in Christian youth recreation founded by Dr. and Mrs. Richards. Its address is P.O. Box 150. Dr. Richards, who would have been 81 years old today, died almost without warning late Saturday. Earlier in the day he had visited Central Union church to inspect the Easter decorations. In the afternoon he and Mrs. Richards had chatted with a caller. He was cheerful and interested in the plans for Easter. A few moments later, after he had gone to his room, he passed away quietly. Dr. Richards had not been in the best of health since he was hospitalized for six weeks late last year by a severe cold. But he had been comfortable since he returned to his home late in January. Many relief charities Dr. Richards apportioned and sent the money for relief purposes to the Philippines, Korea, Japan, Okinawa, Germany and China, and $520 was given to Kawaiahao church for scholarship and other purposes. Surviving him are his widow, Mary Cushing Atherton Richards; and four children – Miss Polly Richards (Mary Theodora); and Mrs. Frank E. Midkiff of Honolulu; Joseph Atherton Richards, formerly of Honolulu, now living in New York, and Herbert M. (Montie) Richards of Honolulu. There are also several grandchildren.
