Orr jessicanorr@gmail.com March 2, 2012, 5:20 pm Unknown Newspaper, January 1948 UNKNOWN NEWSPAPER, 1948 FUNERAL TODAY FOR MRS. TRASK, VICTIM OF FALL Services for Mrs. Anne Kaili Travis Trask, 56, wife of Attorney David K. Trask, chairman of the Democratic Territorial central committee and former Oahu senator, will be held at 9:45 o’clock this morning in St. Ann’s church in Heeia, Windward Oahu. The body will be at Borthwick’s mortuary from 8 to 9 o’clock and will then be taken to the church, where a requiem high mass will be sung by Maryknoll sisters. The Rev. Father Paul Gay, an old family friend, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Father John Murray. Burial will be in the family plot in Kaneohe. Mrs. Trask died in the St. Francis hospital at 2:10 o’clock Thursday* morning following a fall at the family home in Kaneohe Wednesday night. Mrs. Trask fell from the top of an unlighted stairway and down 12 concrete steps. She had grasped a poinsettia branch in an effort to stop her fall, but it gave way. Her youngest son, Valentine, went to her assistance, and called his brother, David K. Trask Jr. A doctor was summoned and Mrs. Trask was removed to the emergency hospital at Kaneohe. She was then taken in a city and county ambulance to the St. Francis hospital, where final rites of the Catholic church were administered by the resident priest. She died seven minutes after arrival. Eight of Mrs. Trask’s nine children were with their mother when she died. Absent was Bernard K. Trask, who is a law student in his senior year at the University of California. He is scheduled to arrive by plane Thursday night to attend the services. Attorney Arthur K. Trask, a son, said that his mother had gone outdoors for a breath of fresh air and to view the lights on Kaneohe Bay. Earlier in the evening the family had gathered at their Kaneohe home for a birthday party for the senior Trask’s twin granddaughters, Karen and Katherine, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. George Marciel. (Cecilia Trask Marciel). The group retired at about 9 o’clock. Senator Trask was not informed of the accident at the time it happened as he has been in ill health and only recently was released from the Queen’s hospital. He was told, however, after his children returned home about 5 Thursday morning. In addition to the widower, the following children survive: Attorney Trask, Bernard, James, Honolulu businessmen; Mrs. Marciel, Mrs. Haddie A. (Lani Trask) Padeken, David K., Jr., with the Territorial department of public works; Miss Isobel Trask, clerk at the Territorial hospital; Miss Glad Trask, teacher at Sacred Hearts Academy, and Valentine, with the Oahu Railway & Land Co. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren. Mrs. Trask, the former Anne Kaili Travis, was born in Waimea, Kauai, on June 21, 1891, during the reign of Queen Liliuokalani and was of Irish-Hawaiian descent. She was the niece of Mrs. Jennie Wilson, wife of Mayor John H. Wilson of Honolulu. A resident of Kaneohe for about 25 years, she took an active part in community and church affairs. She was also active in the Hawaiian Civic Club, especially in connection with the scholarship project, took part in activities of St. Ann’s Catholic church, Heeia, and was a member of Hale O Na Alii, the Hawaiian women’s organization. Mrs. Trask received her schooling at the Sacred Heart Convent on Fort St. She and Senator Trask were married in Honolulu on May 18, 1910.
