Orr jessicanorr@gmail.com March 2, 2012, 5:31 pm Unknown Newspaper, May 1950 MRS. C. M. WHITE, RESIDENT HERE SINCE ’88, DIES Esther Spring White, wife of the late Clarence M. White and mother of Henry A. White, president of the Hawaiian Pineapple CO., died early Monday* morning on her 86th birthday. She had been ill for some time with a heart ailment, and had been in St. Francis hospital since early this month. Mrs. White was born May 15, 1864, in County Kerry, Ireland, where she was educated in Presentation Convent. Coming to America in 1881, Mrs. White spent seven years in California, and then came to Honolulu, where she was married Jan. 16, 1888, to Clarence M. White, who had come to Hawaii from Idaho to teach school. After her husband’s death in 1906, Mrs. White undertook the operation of a dairy in the Makiki district of Honolulu in order to support herself and her five young children. Mrs. White is survived by the following children: Henry A., Clarence A., now in Vera Cruz, Mexico; Esther E. White, secretary to H. A. Walker of American Factors; Mrs. C. T. Oliphant and Mrs. Florence A. MacNicholl. Mrs. White had lived with her daughter, Esther, at 2745-B Manoa Rd. Services will be private and it is requested that no flowers be sent.
