Orr jessicanorr@gmail.com March 12, 2014, 9:52 pm The Honolulu Advertiser, Sunday, June 1, 1930 - Vital Statistics Bryan-Ayres Wedding Thursday Afternoon The garden of the William Thompson home made a lovely setting for the marriage of Miss Helen Margaret Ayres and Edwin H. Bryan, which took place late Thursday afternoon, Rev. Henry Judd reading the marriage lines in the presence of close friends. The bride is the daughter of the late Arthur Ayers and Mrs. Ayres of Los Gatos. She is a graduate of Mills College, where she received her master's degree is chemistry. Her grandfather was Dr. John Balch Elliott of Indianapolis, who came to California in early days and was the founder of Pasadena. Two of her four brothers are living in the Islands; Arthur, a chemist with the H. S. P. A., and Thomas on Maui. Another brother, Elliott, is manager of the students' co-operative association at Stanford. Mr. Bryan, who is curator of collections at the Bishop Museum, is a graduate of the University of Hawaii and of Yale and has done post graduate work at Stanford. For the ceremony on Thursday, the bride wore a lovely gown of bougainvillea rose chiffon. Her hat was of natural straw and lace and she carried a bouquet of white roses and maiden hair fern. Miss Eleanor Thompson, her only attendant, wore a dress of apple green crepe de chine and a picture hat of natural straw, and her flowers were yellow roses. Arthur Ayres served Mr. Bryan as best man. Following the ceremony there was an informal reception for about 30 close friends of the couple. Mr. and Mrs. Bryan will be at home after the fifteenth of June at 2721 Ferdinand avenue.
