Orr jessicanorr@gmail.com July 31, 2014, 12:16 am The Honolulu Advertiser, Sunday, June 6, 1937 Suzanne Gill Is Lovely Bride In Military Rites The green and white motif predominated in arrangements for the military wedding of Miss Suzanne Gill, daughter of Liuet. Col. and Mrs. William H. Gill of the Twenty-seventh Infantry, and Lieut. Frank P. Norman Jr., son of Dr. and Mrs. F. P. Norman of Columbus, Ga., at half after five o'clock yesterday afternoon at the Schofield chapel. Chaplain John T. Axton, Jr., read the nuptial lines in the presence of 175 frineds from the garrison and Honolulu. Calla and Easter lilies banked by tropical palms formed the wedding setting which the bridal party approaced through an aisle of maile fastened to standards of lilies. Glowing tapers gave the soft light for the ceremony. The attractive bride, escorted by her father, chose a gown of white lace, beautiful in its simplicity. It was fashioned on silhouetted lines emphasized by the sweeping court train and close-fitting sleeves. The misty tulle veil fell from a coronet cap finished in pleated ruching. The bridal flowers were lilies-of-the valley, roses and orchids. Miss Virginia Parrott, maid of honor, wore Nile green chiffon, designed with an accordian pleated cape. Shirring at the shoulders and waist achieved the fullness in the bodice and floor-length skirt. In lovely complement to the gown she carried Cecil Bruner and yellow roses accented by forget-me-nots. Lieut. Jack Roberts, Air Corps, of Wheeler Field, was best man. The ushers, all West Point classmates of the bridegroom included Lieut. Charles Billingslea, Lieut. Robert S. Blodgett, Lieut. Andrew D. Chaffin Jr., Lieut. Wright Hiatt, Lieut. Clyde L. Layne and Lieut. Edmund W. Miles. Their swords formed the traditional arch of steel for the recessional. A reception held at the Schofield club followed the ceremony. The bride's table, arranged with lilies and greenery, held the tiered wedding cake. This the new Mrs. Norman cut with her husband's gleaming saber in accordance with time-honored Army custom. During the tea, the Twenty-seventh Infantry orchestra, which had played soft string music for the wedding, entertained for dancing. The young couple left for a short honeymoon on Oahu, after which they will be at home at the garrison. The bride traveled in a white sharkskin suit detailed in navy blue. Her accessories were also navy blue. Mrs. Norman is a graduate of Holton Arms School, Washington, D.C. Lieut. Norman attended Emory University, Atlanta, Ga., and graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1936. He has been stationed with the Signal Corps at Schofield since last December.
